The biologist who chases away sleeping sickness

Trypanosomiasis, transmitted by the tsetse fly, continues to wreak havoc in West and Central Africa. In Côte d'Ivoire, the Trypa-NO program aims to eradicate sleeping sickness as a public health problem by 2020 and achieve a zero transmission rate by 2030. The technique is to harmonise and integrate screening, diagnosis and treatment of sleeping sickness with vector control needed to fight the tsetse fly.
