ITER, nuclear fusion under construction

The result of an international collaboration, the ITER project aims to harness nuclear fusion, the reaction at work in stars like our Sun, to produce electricity. Work on the ITER site began in 2010, with construction of the reactor scheduled for 2020. The first experiments, i.e. the first plasma, are expected in five years' time.
