The agronomist who plants crops and trees together
Planting oil palms, cassava and beans on the same plot: what are the benefits for the farmer but also for the soil and biodiversity? In Benin, agronomist Hermione Koussihouèdé is working on a thesis in which she assesses the productivity of agroforestry systems in southern Benin. What is at stake? The income of farmers but also the associations of plants that allow the soil to store carbon as efficiently as possible, thus fighting against climate change.
